Overview

The Summer Fashion School London is exactly that. Based near King’s Road SW3, we offer 10-19 year olds high-end intensive residential and non-residential fashion programmes designed to give you a real insight into the many aspects of the fashion industry.

You will have access to unique learning experiences including workshops, masterclasses and talks from high-ranking industry professionals and entrepreneurs covering areas such as buying, merchandising and trend analysis. You will fast track your skills, enhance your fashion experience, increase your knowledge base and take your first steps towards creating a fashion portfolio. Whether you are a fashion beginner or taking your first steps towards a career in fashion, you will be welcomed into our school’s friendly, safe and inclusive fashion family.

We have two fantastic locations in Chelsea which you will not find with any other summer school in London. Our lessons are based at Kensington and Chelsea College - the multi- million pound Chelsea Centre is situated near fashionable boutiques and cafes, and is within walking distance from our accommodation, Lightfoot Hall, which is based in the most exclusive postcode in London - SW3.

You will enjoy expert tuition from our tutors who have a wealth of fashion experience alongside exclusive tours, talks and workshops with current fashion designers and those working within the industry today. Our 2018 programme included (but wasn’t limited to) a tour of Central Saint Martins, studio tour and talk from contemporary brand House of Sunny, an exclusive tour of a working couture garment manufacturer (Sienna Couture) and trips to the popular and often sold out Azzedine Alaïa and Frida Kahlo exhibitions.

Services for International Students

All our activities and venues are staffed 24 hours a day, for the duration of the programme, to ensure the highest student safety; so our team are always close by should we be needed. Each student is also designated a personal tutor who you can talk to day or night about anything that concerns you. We offer a chaperoned arrival/departure transfer service to/from Gatwick Airport for a small extra charge. This includes a member of our team accompanying you from the moment you arrive to our accommodation. Transfer to and from the airport is by the Gatwick Express train only.

If you are flying to Heathrow Airport, our arrival/departure transfer service to/from the airport is not chaperoned. Instead, we arrange for an  Addison Lee driver to wait at arrivals with a name board (except for Terminal 5 International at Heathrow). We highly recommend this company for their safe, reliable service.

We also offer additional extras to make your stay with us even more memorable. You can choose to be fully inclusive (all meals included), have the option to stay in a spacious studio room at our accommodation, have afternoon tea at Harrods, and/or Prêt-à- Portea (afternoon tea) at The Berkeley.

In Summer 2019, we have two programmes for 14-19 year olds: Ready-to-Wear and Fashion Luxe. If you want to enjoy some of the finest places London has to offer, we highly recommend our Fashion Luxe course! Find out more on our website.

We do ask that international students must have a good understanding of the English language to be able to follow our lessons and talks. We recommend that you hold a B1 or above in an English Language Qualification. For more information, please do visit our website.

Accommodation

Lightfoot Hall is situated in one of the most desirable areas in London, just off King’s Road in Chelsea, and is within walking distance of some of London’s most iconic fashion landmarks: close to Harrods and Sloane Street (Gucci, Chanel, Prada, Valentino) – perfect for our fashion research, garment factory visits and industry talks.

It’s a friendly and relaxed environment as we discuss projects, watch films and bond as a group. The two large common rooms mean you’ll always be able to find somewhere for a chat or a quiet area in which to research and develop your designs.

The Hall is completely protected with an on-site 24 hour security team who monitor the building to ensure you feel safe and secure at all times. There will also be 24 hour dependable pastoral care to ensure you feel welcome, inspired, supported and included.  If you have a problem, feel unsure or a little lonely, we are here for you at all times.

Location

Our accommodation at Lightfoot Hall and studio space at Kensington and Chelsea College are within walking distance in Chelsea. Therefore, there is no need to travel via underground, coach etc each day.

As we are in the heart of London, we will have more time to visit the V&A’s fashion collection and exhibition, The Fashion & Textiles museum, the Saatchi Gallery and exclusive tours, trips and talks.

We can also offer bespoke services and quotes to tailor our programmes to students’ requirements.
