Introduction to Climate Change and Sustainability Programs

As a growing number of countries and businesses declare a climate emergency and pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, there is an increased demand for ‘climate intelligence’ and professionals in all sectors to understand climate change science, policy and management.

This forward-thinking subject provides students with a unique opportunity to study climate change, looking at innovative and positive strategies for monitoring and managing the impacts from a geography and engineering perspective.

Students will learn about the physical and societal impacts of climate change as well as ideas around sustainability whilst developing a technical understanding of what is required to solve the problems of the future from an engineering perspective.

Careers in Climate Change and Sustainability

Climate Change and Sustainability graduates will be able to pursue a career within a number of different sectors, including consultancies, local authority planning departments, agriculture, the defence sector, the energy sector and environmental regulatory and management organizations.

There are already many employment opportunities for graduates with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) skills – particularly in environmental science where tackling climate change is one of the most important issues for national governments around the world. Graduates from this program will be able to take advantage of such opportunities as well as employment linked to the growing green economy market.
