UK Film Studies Courses

Introduction to Film Studies

A Film Studies degree looks at the theoretical, historical and critical approaches to film and explores the narrative, artistic, cultural, economic, and political implications of cinema. Students will spend time reading and writing about all types of film, discussing meaning and importance and the role of the audience, while also learning about the roles of producers, directors, screenwriters and actors. Hollywood, independent and experimental cinema will be covered.

Students will be able to select from a number of core modules which provide a core base to learning and provide a stepping stone to more advanced study in later years. These can include scriptwriting, film curation and contemporary Hollywood cinema. Work placements are encouraged to further develop your skills in real life scenarios.

The UK has produced and continues to produce excellent cinema, film-makers and actors that stand the test of time. The global prevalence of the English language is one reason why and a further incentive to study in the UK for anyone aspiring to work in film.

Graduate Film Studies Careers

Film Studies graduates find work as film or video producers, editors and researchers. They work in film marketing and PR, media production, publishing, film making, events management and local and community broadcasting. The graduate job market in film and media is extremely competitive and work experience and placements during your degree will help your CV stand out when applying for positions.
