Services for International Students

International Welcome Week, which is held at the beginning of the academic year for international students, provides an opportunity for international students to get to know each other, as well as introduce them to life in the UK and the university. During Welcome Week, there will be a meet and greet service at Newcastle Airport, information sessions and social events.

We also provide an academic skills kit, maths-aid, health and wellbeing, peer mentoring, language learning resources and career services to support your personal and professional growth throughout your time at Newcastle University.

Accommodation

Accommodation for international students is guaranteed for the first year of study. Newcastle University has almost 4,000 places available, about 25% of which are catered. Facilities vary, with en suite and standard rooms available, as well as larger single rooms and studio apartments. Self-catered rooms are generally arranged in flats with a shared kitchen.

Location

Newcastle is regarded as the capital of the north-east of England and is a lively, compact, cosmopolitan and student friendly city which is located on the banks of the River Tyne. It is famous for its world-class culture, vibrant nightlife, fascinating history, great shopping and beautiful architecture.

Stunning countryside and coastal scenery is within easy travelling distance of the city, including hills, lakes, castles and beautiful coastlines. The historic cities of Durham, York and Edinburgh are easy to reach by train or bus, while London is only a three-hour train journey away. Newcastle Airport has links to major cities including Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam as well as a daily connection to Dubai.
