Brexit and Studying in the UK

Why EU students have nothing to fear
ahead of the 2020/21 academic year.

Brexit Updates for EU Students

UK Universities and EU Students

On Friday 31st January 2020 the UK formally left the European Union and is now in a transition period until December 31st 2020.

UK universities and SI-UK have always supported diversity, tolerance and internationalism and the UK remains one of the most welcoming destinations in the world for an EU student looking to gain a world class education.

All universities strongly believe that European and international students make a vital contribution to UK higher education and society as a whole. Learn more below with our FAQ and if you have any questions, please contact SI-UK Canada and we will be happy to help.

Brexit FAQ

- Will EU students still pay the same tuition fees as home students?

EU students applying to study in the UK for the 2020/21 academic year will continue to pay the same tuition fees as UK students and there will be no changes to loan eligibility.

- Will EU students have to apply for a student visa?

You will not need a visa if you are arriving before the official Brexit date. You may need to register on arrival in the UK if you will be staying for more than three months.

You will be eligible to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme if you are an EU national with a valid passport and are resident in the UK or arrive by 31 December 2020. If by the same date you have been continually living in the UK for 5 years, you will be able to apply to stay in the UK indefinitely (settled status).
